05.12.2023: Sònia Garcia (Barcelona): Repetitive DNA: where cytogenetics meets genomics, HS 31.11, Institut für Biologie, Bereich Pflanzenwissenschaften, Schubertstraße 51, 17.00 bis 18.30 Uhr
The intimate relationship between the DNA sequence and the chromosomal structure and function underscores the need to integrate genomic and cytogenetic data for a more holistic understanding of genome architecture and its role in adaptability across species. In this talk, I will provide an overview of my research work in plant evolutionary biology, focusing on two key agents of (cyto)genomic change and evolution: (1) repetitive DNA in general, with a special emphasis on the evolution and organization of ribosomal DNA and the possible phylogenetic signal of different ribosomal DNA configurations, and (2) structural variations in chromosomes and genomes, including processes such as hybridization, polyploidy, and changes in the repeatome, associated with biological invasions.
