23.5.2023: Petr Keil (Prag): Scale-dependent biodiversity dynamics in the Anthropocene: Ecological mechanisms and empirical evidence, HS 32.01, Institut für Biologie, Bereich Pflanzenwissenschaften, Holteigasse 6, 17.00 bis 18.30 Uh
Global biodiversity has been changing. We have reasons to expect that unprecedented extinctions, extirpations, and invasions have been taking place all over the world, but the overall picture of how fast and where these processes happen is complex: In some regions and organisms, we know that global diversity declines, but not much has been happening on an average local patch. I will discuss ecological mechanisms that can lead to this scale-dependent dynamics, I will show what is the empirical evidence for scale-dependent dynamics in various taxa and regions. I will talk about how to interpret all this, and about potential new prospects in the field.'
