15.10.2024: Jan Hejatko (Brno, Czech Republic): Leveraging hormonal regulations of plant development – from the root growth up to the water conductivity in the shoots, HS 31.11, Institut für Biologie, Bereich Pflanzenwissenschaften, Schubertstrasse 51, 17:00 Uhr
Equilibrium between cell division and differentiation is one of the key regulatory processes with fundamental importance in all multicellular living systems. In my talk I’ll first introduce our latest work on the role of cytokinin/ethylene crosstalk in the regulation of cell division and differentiation in the control of root growth. I’ll highlight particularly the spatial specificity and identification of novel mechanisms mediating cytokinin-induced ethylene production. In the second part, I’ll present our unpublished data suggesting that cytokinins downregulate the genes for NAC TFs NST1 and NST3, the master switches controlling transcriptional cascade leading to secondary cell wall formation. That allows establishing proper developmental gradient along the inflorescence stem in Arabidopsis, including functional tracheary elements formation.
