The Congo Basin's rich biodiversity is increasingly linked to the spread of pathogens, posing risks to both wildlife and human health. This presentation explains how diverse animal species act as reservoirs or vectors for pathogens, facilitating transmission across species and to humans. Human encroachment and habitat fragmentation exacerbate the risk of zoonotic diseases. The findings highlight the need for integrated conservation and public health strategies to mitigate pathogen spillover risks. By maintaining ecological balance and monitoring wildlife health, the risk for the emergence of infectious diseases can be reduced, preserving both biodiversity and human health. The take home message highlights the importance of the One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of environmental, animal, and human health in managing disease risks in the Congo Basin.
