10.4.2019: Dr. Matthias WEISSENSTEINER (LMU München): Crow speciation - Phenotypes, populations and genome structure, HS 02.11, Institut für Biologie, Bereich Zoologie, Universitätsplatz 2, 13.15 Uhr
Heritable genetic variation is the raw material of evolution and can occur in many different forms, from changes of single nucleotides to rearrangements of large stretches of chromosomes. The rapid development of technologies has enabled the assessment of the full size spectrum of genetic variation and spurs the emergence of a new era of evolutionary genetics. Using the songbird genus Corvus we assess genetic variation in a natural population setting with short-read, long-read and optical mapping technologies and characterize selection regimes and candidate variants for the phenotypic divergence between all-black and black-and-grey crow populations.
