19.01.2022: Tobias PFINGSTL & Michaela KERSCHBAUMER (Graz, Österreich): Die Klauen und ihre ökologische Relevanz bei Arthropoden - Claws and their ecological relevance in arthropods um 13.15 Uhr online https://unimeet.uni-graz.at/b/pfi-3xv-pgb-3qy
Klauen bzw.
Claws are morphological structures fulfilling a variety of functions and are present in the vast majority of animals. However, relatively few is known about correlations of shape, function and ecology. In this talk, we will provide insights into the present knowledge about these correlations in different groups of animals (from dinosaurs to the tiniest arthropods). Based on our own research on intertidal oribatid mites, we will demonstrate that the shape of claws is strongly correlated to the lifestyle of the animals. Finally, we will shortly introduce our most recent project dealing with the further comprehensive investigation of claws and their relevance in terrestrial mites.
