PHYTON - Scope

    PHYTON is an international botanical journal. The aim of PHYTON is the publication of scientific papers from all major fields of plant science, the "scientia amabilis" of Linnaeus (Botany, Phytology).

    As in other fields of scientific endeavour, new discoveries and advanced analysis in plant science has resulted in specialization. Since the plant, however, is a biological entity plant research will progress at its best, when botany does not fully disintegrate into individual disciplines with little or no interconnections among them. Alongside the indispensable specialized journals, therefore, other periodicals are needed which cover the whole field. Abstracts alone are insufficient to establish real communication between plant scientists in the diverse fields.

    With the aim to alleviate the lack of journals covering plant sciences in general, PHYTON was established in 1948 by Prof. Dr. Friedl WEBER and Prof. Dr. Felix J. WIDDER, the former heads of the Institutes of Plant Physiology and of Botany at the University of Graz.
